Why did I start GoFedi?
The short answer: I co-founded another Fediverse hosting service called @spacehost@spacehost.team. But for several reasons—which I won’t get into here—I stepped away in January 2024.
Then in August, I learned that SpaceHost was very likely to shut down. As a customer myself, that hit hard. SpaceHost was the only fully-managed hosting provider that truly supported multiple Fediverse platforms—and I believed something like it had to live on.
So I reached out to Basit Ali, SpaceHost’s lead engineer, and asked if he wanted to keep the idea alive. He did. And that’s how GoFedi was born.
Unfortunately, my hunch was right: SpaceHost is shutting down. But I’ve since worked with them to arrange a full migration path to GoFedi—so their users can stay online, safely and smoothly.
SpaceHost is sunsetting, but GoFedi is here to carry the torch—and we’re doing it all in Canada.

@atomicpoet
Oh, that's you? I just tried to sign up on the notification list, but it looks like the confirmation email failed. Found it looking for alternative hosting options, in case I need one. -

Black Aziz Anansi :vm: A similar amount that SpaceHost charged. So for a small Mastodon server, it would be $12/month. And basically, that means we would look after all technical aspects.

@atomicpoet Is this open source? I'm slowly building https://fedicloud.au/ for my region.

@shlee Right now, our entire dev focus has been on trying to preserve SpaceHost servers before the service shuts down. -

@atomicpoet keep me in mind if we can do some kind of partnership. I have a lot of spare compute.
