    I mean, everyone gets rejected sometimes. Happens.

    But if 2 in 5 women I tried to talk to backed away, took out their passports, drove to the airport, left their keys in the car at long term parking, and left the hemisphere? That'd hurt!

        @mekkaokereke lol, so toxic that women feel they have to flee their homeland to get away from them.
        Incidentally that was one of the reasons my Ma left Ireland back in the late 60s..."the men"

        Men need to sort ourselves out, it's pathetic.

          @Lazarou @mekkaokereke

          In the case of the poll, I would assume it's a lot more to do about the shrinking of reproductive rights (i.e. abortion) rather than 'toxic men', which are probably in any country in similar proportions...

          (Edited to clarify that I am referring to the current poll results)

            Why would you just assume that every country in earth is as misogynist as the country you’re from?

            The leading cause of death for pregnant women in this country is homicide. This is not normal. The USA is uniquely horrific in several ways, and the way we treat women is one of them.

              I assumed this from my personal experience and because I don't think nationality changes the way people think or behave.

              I come from France and we have a lot of toxic men over there, and a lot of "feminicides" - men killing women just because of their gender. Actually when I was in the US I found men to be much more polite and respectful overall compared to most European countries I've been to. I read stories about toxic masculinity from all across the world. So, I believe that toxic men are a thing in any country.

                @elduvelle @sidereal

                Honestly, I can see why you would think that. Basing your assumptions on personal experience is understandable, but still wrong.

                The femicide rate in France is 0.7 out of every 100,000 people. In the US, it's 2.9, more than 4 times higher.

                And French views on childcare, social safety nets, is very different. The gender wage gap is smaller in France. 93% of France supports abortion access, vs 63% in the US.

                "Toxic men are everywhere!" is of course a true statement. That's not the same thing as saying
                "Therefore I can safely assume that the rate of toxic men must be constant worldwide, irrespective of local culture and norms."

                  @mekkaokereke wow, I didn't realize the difference between the two countries was that high for feminicides. That's pretty bad 😬

                    Looking at the statistics, the other thing I notice is that even if toxic *men* are equally common everywhere, toxic *behavior* can be more or less allowed or encouraged.
