Traveller and Shadowrun are intellectually fascinating to me as I love the ideas behind both games but I didn't really like the original edition of either.

@Taskerland As far as rules are concerned, I think that Mongoose Traveller is the best Traveller rule set that isn't GURPS. It feels like someone's house rules on the original, tidied up.
I haven't had much to do with their background material. And of course Mongoose editing is legendary.@RogerBW I don't think they could have made a less hospitable-to-me version of Traveller had they deliberately set out to do so.
I think they gave the game's fanbase what they wanted but sweet Georgia Brown...

@Taskerland @Printdevil I had a skim through, but it felt like a mixture of off-brand WH40K with that same "the world is clearly ending, we won't even try to find out why" feeling I get from Blades in the Dark.

@RogerBW It's basically WH40K and Dune with character creation by White Wolf. You could play as an intelligent Shetland Pony. @Printdevil

So, the silicate based mid 18th century water spout with orange smoke disintegration powers is a goer?

@Printdevil I can't remember if they literally had playable Gargoyles but it would not surprise me if they did. @RogerBW

However, despite my not thinking much of the original iterations of either of these games, I am forced to admit that each subsequent edition has somehow made them worse.
@Taskerland Both are great settings attached to infuriating design philosophies in a way that sparks entire cottage industries of "that but not shit please"

I have honestly never seen the attraction of Shadowrun.

The RPG? That's in my local game shop. With enough cobwebs on it to count as a supplement about spider-monsters

@AndreasDavour I suspect he got a lump sum but I think it was presented as him handing it over.
@Taskerland I see. Thanks.
