Huh, only four(ish) people thought Space Master X-7 (1958) was the worst movie ever on #Monsterdon. Still not a particularly high percentage, I feel comfortable bestowing the title of Not All *THAT* Awful™ on Space Master X-7.

Honestly, I appreciated that Space Master X-7 was trying to be a fairly well-grounded film. Like, the science wasn't completely unbelievable and the monster (such as it was) was more realistic than one of the ol' Radiation And Space Magic standbys.

The film's problem is that, with a grounded monster like that, the only source of drama left was interpersonal conflict between the characters... And that's like the seventh or eighth reason anybody goes to see a sci fi flick.

We made jokes about Space Master X-7 feeling like a Perry Mason episode, but you realistically could have replaced the space fungus with anything that spreads slowly and kills. A chemical of some kind, a disease, especially powerful BO, anything. The actual space fungus -- which is a pretty neat idea with a lot of interesting implications -- had little or nothing to do with the actual plot of the movie. Which is kind of boring.
