While German #folklore has lots of fantastic material that could be plundered for #ttrpg campaigns, directly translating the folk tales into RPG adventures and campaigns has a number of problems:- Folk tales center on lone protagonists, RPGs on group adventures - Folk tales are "one-shots", RPGs usually have ongoing stories or campaigns - The wealth rewards in folk tales are almost always enough to retire on, while RPG characters only do so at the end of the campaign - While there is no shortage of antagonists in folk tales, there is no real "villain arc" with "Big Bads" with complex schemes who can only be defeated after lengthy effort.Any attempt to translate German folk tales into an RPG environment thus needs careful thought about how to fit their themes into the rather different narrative environments of RPGs - though changing folk tales for new audiences _is_ in the very best tradition of folk storytelling...
