Astronomers found a pair of orbiting white dwarfs pretty close to Earth that will spiral together and go supernova.

If you know anything about me then you know what I'm gonna say next: don't panic.

It'll be a while before they explode. 20 gigayears.

A couple of interviews, and a kinda sorta nearby supernova progenitor

    As always: don’t panic

@badastro that's what annoyed me about this story. they're close now, but the timescales involved... we will presumably have drifted far apart on our journeys around the milky way core long before... we crash into andromeda and everything gets thrown around anyway. and a long time after that, these may go boom.

(not to mention the sun... oh you know…)
