Patlabor, but it's about trash collection labors or construction labors or something.

@CactuarJoe (see because Bo's a human piloting the sentient construction Mech and both are from Brooklyn)
@xerozohar I like it, six seasons and a movie

@CactuarJoe yeah yeah!

Also I want mech series where there are no military mechs and the people trying to develop them are seen as slightly bonkers.
Like, you are trying to build a tank with balance issues, *why*
Learning about Patlabor's continuity is starting to hurt my head. The second movie takes place AFTER the third. The first movie and the prequel series were both on in 1989. The first actual series doesn't end until about the middle of the SECOND series, which has episodes that slot into continuity in various places in the FIRST series.
Jesus christ, gentlemen.

Also there's a new series coming out next year that they've been working on since 2016, which is... I mean, that's a whole decade, man. O_o;

I'm enjoying the Patlabor series a lot more than the OVA. The tone's like a total 180 from the serious tone of the movies, but frankly, so was the OVA. The series at least has the excuse of being in a different continuity.

Also the series actually has time for characterization, which is nice.
And Ohta is less insane, the whole "gun-happy cop, but he's *funny*" really did not age well >_>;

Watching more Patlabor with lunch and it occurs to me they've had more cryptids than crimes on this show so far.
Escaped lab experiments: 2
Criminals arrested on-camera: 1
...Hikers spooked: 5

But then I know the Japanese are loathe to admit that crime actually takes place in Japan, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@CactuarJoe Reminds of the story Aaron Archer told about talking to TakaraTomy folks about designing toys to be less likely to break/easily fixed if broken (like ball joints) and they were like, “Japanese children do not break their toys.
”

I take it back this series is amazing

Okay this is the *third* cryptid episode, guys. Surely you can do something more interesting with this setup.

@CactuarJoe given the use of robots, why is it not CRYPTID KAIJU FIGHTS? (or is it?)

@xerozohar It kinda should be, but they keep Scooby Doo-ing this shit. It's starting to get annoying.
