It kinda feels sexist to casually put the "why" in the headline like the answer is even remotely a mystery. The answer is people are scared of violence and violent threats and will tend to prefer people who don't behave that way.

I'll have to trust you that you live in a place with bizarre market dynamics where mortgage is cheaper than rent for the same unit, or maybe you're the king of real estate deals or got lucky with a panic seller. Even in that situation, there's a whole lot of numbers missing from that calculation. Property taxes, maintenance, opportunity cost of investing the downpayment, insurance, whether your investments would be taxable or tax sheltered, expected RE growth, a time horizon of 20 to 60 years etc. You will be better off using a proper calculator made by a CFP.

I wouldn't make that conclusion from a few days of stock market numbers but I certainly hope for that to be true. Remember, the stock market is a very bad proxy of the real economy anyways.

One of the men serving a sentence for their actions during the Coutts pandemic-era border blockade and protest has been denied parole despite a largely glowing review of his time in prison. Chris Carbert and Anthony Olienick were convicted of mischief over $5,000 and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public. They were acquitted of the more serious charge of conspiring to murder RCMP officers during the 2022 border protest. In September, both men were handed 6½-year sentences, but with credit for the time he'd served pending trial, Carbert had two years, seven months left behind bars. Seven months into his remaining 31-month sentence, Carbert applied for parole. A hearing took place before two Parole Board of Canada members.

if there is a good enough profit in it, private clinics will do it. And selling something that has no incremental initial cost (they have to collect the patient data anyway) s almost pure profit.

Polievre uses his own daughter (who has no say in the matter) If he’s no longer leader and he’s not elected in public life anymore the. his daughter can’t be used against her will as a political prop.

Your comment comes off as a bit too gender normative IMO, but I do think you are correct in that it might be a bit blown out of proportion. The law does protect doctors who deem it necessary to do surgery to correct birth defects (especially those that involve or are around genitelia) and I think that's quite reasonable. It would be even better if the law set specific protections for intersex infants, though. There's a significant difference between someone born with a defect that can cause serious complications in the future (I heard recently that AFAB urethras are surprisingly often plumbed weirdly) and someone who's born intersex.

I clicked on this link to just poke around and as usual YouTube thought I was getting ready to do a deep dive into alt right dog shit. There's already suggested videos of how Canada has fallen apart but only ambiguously pointing to just the last 10 years. Anyways highly suggest people not even click the link if they don't want to spend time pruning your algo. YouTube is especially bad for it since you can't block anything.

To shut our governments up, they're allowing a small amount in. Netanyahu and his allies in the Knesset are even apologizing to their citizens for it. Netanyahu defends Gaza aid resumption, acknowledges step stemmed from allies’ pressure PM stresses need to avoid bad optics of starvation; dozens of trucks said ready to enter; far-right parties divided on move, but neither threatens to exit in protest (...) Israel’s “greatest friends in the world,” he said, including senators but without mentioning specific nationalities, had said there was “one thing we cannot stand. We cannot accept images of hunger, mass hunger. We cannot stand that. We will not be able to support you.” Netanyahu said the situation had been approaching a “red line” and a “dangerous point,” but it was not clear if he was referring to the crisis in Gaza or the potential loss of support from allies.

I only got a nickel and quarter with King Charles on the last weekend, among a literal handful of change. There are a lot of years of QEII coins out there, though. She's going to still be in circulation for a many years, yet.

At the end of the day, rent prices are driven by house prices. If rents become too high compared to owning, people just buy. The current barrier is the upfront cost, but... The property taxes I propose will drop the current value of homes through the floor. Some highly inefficient homes may actually have a zero or negative value, because they would cost too much in tax each month for anyone to want to buy. They would be scooped up by developers who can make them affordable by building enough units on that property in order to bring the tax per unit down to something people would pay. Given that the house prices would drop so significantly, so would rent prices across the board. There isn't actually a lack of land anywhere in Canada, even our most populated city cores haven't hit the densities that would prevent further growth. There also isn't actually a lack of housing, as I said elsewhere there are more bedrooms in Canada than there are people. We just need policies which incentive people to use them efficiently. And the government controlling all rentals is an option, but do you really think they're going to keep everything 100% repaired and up to date for everyone? This is going to be a pain point under both options, and I'd rather be able to take private landlord to court to get something fixed than try to take the government itself to court.
