I had no idea this was about to happen. Why the heck did the government attack the office, which supports Canadian citizens? They should be focusing on consequences for the the way the app influences people in an unhealthy way, and is a force of foreign political coercion.

TikTok did this, not the Canadian gov’t.

TikTok is ending its sponsorship of several major Canadian arts organizations, including the Juno Awards and the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), as it prepares to shut down its Canadian operations under a federal directive.

The company said it is complying with an order issued by Ottawa last November, which requires TikTok to wind down operations in Canada due to national security concerns. As a result, the company says it will suspend all partnerships and funding initiatives in the country. So, in other words, its offices will close, but the actual TikTok app will remain in Canada. Go figure.

Our (Lib under Trudeau) government banned TikTok to appease the US after they did the same under Biden. But Trump has since nullified the TikTok ban in the US. Why are we still going through with this? As a nice gift to the US tech oligarch (after we backtracked the Digital Services Tax on them)? Is the platform too leftwing for the government’s liking?

Fun fact TikTok is also one of the more trans-friendly platforms.
