The Russian Invasion of Ukraine, and Russia’s hybrid war against NATO in general has an incredible amount to do with why the US is the way it is now.

Not to be the crazy tinfoil hat person. but it’s all connected. There is an international crime syndicate laying seige to democratic nations all over “The West” and its very likely the people with the most influence in it, are the same people who call themselves the government of Russia.

I fully expect the US to invade the oil sands Alberta if their independence referendum gets anything close to 50%.

Make no mistake, Trunps talk on the “arbitray border” means he has his eye on southern Ontario where all the Canadian car plants & factories are.

Imo, there is a lot more paranoia than substance to this.

What is clear is that there Is no democratic truth that leads to war on Russia being a good idea, and very strong and overwhelming propaganda lies to support this war on Russia.

Factional divisiveness is a problem too easy to just blame on Russia. Your hatred of Russia is no more noble than hatreds of right wing factions.

people can criticise the blaming of many things on Russia, or as Trump and the MAGA faction say, mockingly, “Russia Russia Russia” but it doesnt change the fact that they’ve been the beneficiary of an increasing numbers of geopolitical 180’s from America and certain European countries.

The fact that the Trump Administration is so eager to whitewash and “do business” with them despite the overwhelming amount of human rights violations, war crimes, and crimes against humanity all whilst being on an aggressive nucelar saber rattling posture, is all the proof one needs that there is deep and embedded collusion.

I see the 180 as simply giving up on a losing war, and getting Russia to pressure Iran.

The us did not insist on starting the war out of any goodness for the world.

Oh, I haven’t quite figured out how to jump between instances with the same account, and I ended up making a Lemmy.world and Lemmy.CA account. I already had him blocked on world, thought the name was familiar.

endless war, LMFAO. Just like the reddit version

Mass Murder, Imperialism, Fascism, and genocide is only bad when bad america does it!

These people really should just stop pretending and sign all of their Posts with Slava Rossiya, ZOV, etc. but they’d lose 95% of their shitpost effectiveness if they did.

or maybe that wojak really does exist and theres people out there simping for a regime that wants to kill them.

If this was happening in a country with any natural resource the US wanted, the US would have invaded in the name of saving democracy.

American’s idea of Democracy is “Its beautiful when I win, Its rigged when the bad guys win”

and regardless of who wins, the power and money must flow upward

It’s connected in that the entire proxy war was manufactured by the same corporatists defunding every aspect of life besides the war machine.

Ending political alliances with the US, while allowing the same Wall Street profiteers to continue pilfering Canadian institutions, really shows a total ignorance of why things are so bad in US politics. Like a puppeteer play acting an argument between his left and right hands.

Nice symbolic move, but you still need to drive out the corporatists destroying your housing and healthcare. Plus this article is manufacturing consent for war profiteers who want to keep up the proxy war enriching Canadian weapons manufacturers, so it rings pretty hollow.

Close. Canadian weapons manufacturers are lobbying for continuing the proxy war indefinitely to maintain their profits.

Fleeing the US to Canada feels a bit like fleeing Nazi Germany to Poland in the early 1930’s. I hope it doesn’t end up that way.

Shore says she’s devastated that she can no longer rely on her country to defend democracy. As a scholar who has studied the arc of fascism in Eastern Europe, she saw the red flags waving well ahead of many others.

Doesn’t the US have a pretty well documented record of undermining/destabilizing/overthrowing governments to further its own interests?

I think it’s fair to say that the current US president no longer regards Canada as an ally, but I’m not sure they could ever be relied on to defend democracy.
