If I break FAA regulations on an AM broadcast they’ll knock on my door in a few hours.

If I start spreading Nazi propaganda they’ll trace the paper back to the source.

If I empty Grandma’s bank account into Bitcoin. It’s fucking gone and nobody is going to find me.

That’s the difference the older generation doesn’t seem to understand.

But if a billionaire meddles with their social media platform’s algorithm is such a way, that it boosts whatever will help them get more tax breaks, we should just lay back and enjoy it. Free speech baby!

Pretty soon, kids growing up here won’t even be able to spell the word “education”.

I wonder if these kids say this stuff around their parents, and if so, how the parent responds?

Bitcoin scams are busted all the time, because they don’t understand how to use the correct process to stay anonymous.

If you wanna keep personally insulting me, go ahead but I’m not falling for “BS propaganda” I’m talking from experience. If you use the right tools the only way you will ever get caught with Bitcoin is when you make a withdrawal.

Tracing Bitcoin is possible I admit but tying it to a person is impossible until you go to pick up.

As for the original topic on regulation, I’ll stand my ground. You can try to regulate but they internet will always find a work around. Always has, always will.

If your just talking about YouTube and Meta than our ideas of the internet is very, very different. The internet isn’t tied to big corperations like you think, those are just the ISPs the majority uses.

Hold parents responsible for their failures. Suspend kids for their shitty behaviour, this leave parents to scramble to find childcare or forces them to miss work. After enough financial hits they are going to care, at least tangentially, about their children’s behaviour.

You can never completely regulate the internet and it’s absolutely pointless to try.

You can regulate your child on the internet though, which I also think is pointless to try but it’s more effective than the government stepping in

You can never completely regulate the internet…

                        True enough.

…and it’s absolutely pointless to try.

Um, no. Absolutely worthwhile to establish a reasonable non-destructive internet. Bad players will always find ways - they always have - but they can and should be relegated to the fringes where they have to work to have their voices heard, not be amplified by the biggest platforms in existence.

And what happens when the wrong people get in power and use that regulation to their advantage to prevent their opposition from being heard?

That’s how you end up with Fascism

Maybe we should focus on educating the population to be aware of the danger so they don’t fall for it instead of just throwing pointless policy at it

The FAA regulates aircraft amd aviation. The FCC regulates radio.

                                  1. We’re all too old to understand anything. BUT…
                                  2. You’re speaking from far more tech experience than any of us have.

The ONLY way children have access to the internet* is if an adult buys a device and hands it to them. The vast majority of kids under 14 is not gonna scrape up enough money for a mobile device that they can use to connect to a free hotspot and be online 24/7. Any internet related bad behaviour is 100% the fault of negligent parents who give their children unfiltered access to the murder, rape. racism and bigotry firehose that is the modern internet.

                                      That’s it.

My friends with kids all monitor and control internet access very closely. And before you say “BuT tHaTs A lOt Of WoRk” them maybe you should not have kids. It is a decision to make and raise a new conscious mind, if that seems too hard then don’t fuckin do it.

*access at school is monitored and hardly equivalent to the hours a day spent scrolling at home.
