They’re a danger to the country. We dodged Poilievre this time, but next time those 34% will still be there and voting to take Canada down the dark path the USA is on.

Everyone south of Toronto (not including the actual city), most of everyone around the St Lawrence River in Quebec and all of Alberta still love America, no matter who’s leading it.

It’s the strangest thing … I’ve got friends and family in rural southern Ontario in Haldimand County who might as well be from the southern states, friends in Quebec who barely speak English but love to vacation in Florida and Albertans who are just plain ol racist asshats that fall right into the MAGA cult … everywhere else and you’ll find most northern Canadians who live away from everything just absolutely don’t like Americans.

I am still holding hope that Pierre is on the way out, but I do agree that this 34% of Canadians represents a clear and present danger to Canada as a whole.

Not all of Alberta. The cities are not the same as the rural areas.

I’m in QC and no, people hates Trump and most of them don’t go in the USA anymore. Yes there is always some people going there for vacations like Myrtle Beach or Disney, unfortunately, but they are a small minority. For instance last year, end of school, 2 to 3h wait time at the border. This year, 2 or 3 cars only.

We’re on vacation near Goderich. 1 “white lives matter” sign, but SO many “No Hate in Huron” signs. Very glad people are countering the hate messaging.

I have a cousin that recently moved to Calgary from southern Ontario … young guy in his 20s … Indigenous Mohawk but fully passes as an average white guy. From the way he describes the city and most people … no one really cares about politics all that much … if its full on MAGA, racist, homophobic crap, they join in … if its NDP socially minded all inclusive, they’ll join that too … everyone just joins whatever band wagon is taking place and they don’t care where the politics are coming from

I have a lot of friends … and extended family all over the place … I don’t choose if they have shitty politics or don’t know any better … but I still call them family, even if they have a shitty, narrow view of the world … but it also means I spend as little time with them as possible.

The CPC still has not shown any hints they are considering jettisoning the Reform Party wing, or giving up grievance politics and culture war bullshit for old-fashioned fiscal conservatism or even more mainstream social conservatism. I suspect they are just too tightly coupled to oil interests (i.e., corporate welfare queens) to put actual policies forward that could potentially bite the hand that feeds them.
