Bonnie Critchley — who is running as an independent and pitching herself as an alternative to the Conservative leader, who she argues pushed Kurek out — has also called on the Longest Ballot Committee to back off.

In an open letter to the committee posted on her campaign website, Critchley said there is a “backlash” in the riding from voters who are worried that she is a “fake out” candidate.

“I don’t have a massive team, I don’t have backing from millions of people. I have to go door to door within my community and explain to my neighbours that I have nothing to do with you,” she wrote.

Bonnie Critchley actually sounds pretty dope, I looked through her platform and she seems to actually give a shit, but this headline is taking me right out. Good luck to her and fuck PP.

Good luck to Jayson Cowan as well, who sounds like a legit candidate, though I couldn’t find anything other than this article about him.

Basically just fuck PP and I hope someone who deserves it more gets it. One less con seat in the house is a win for me.

Make that ballot long as hell! We need to make PP to overplay his hand in whining.

Not only do I not have an issue with someone signing for multiple candidate, I do not have a problem with hundreds of people on the ballot. Thousands.

Adding additional restrictions to candicy as a mechanism to preserve democracy is like fucking for virginity.

Secondly, it’s nobodies fucking business who I vote for, or whom I want the future OPTION to vote for. Not yours and certainly not the fucking governments. None of your business if I even had an opinion.

Although I hate to make a slippery slope argument, this ends as “registering” as a Republican or Democrat.

This isn’t a problem that requires solving, this is a feature.

People know their candidate by heart they can gloss over the other names.

I agree that we need to change First Past the Post voting but I dont get how flooding the ballot with a bunch of non serious candidates achieves that? I guess it gets attention, but in the same way that throwing paint on famous works of art “gets attention” for climate change - it mostly just pisses people off and achieves nothing.

I know we live in a polarized political landscape. And I acknowledge it’s not possible to make everyone happy. But I also feel like, part of being a good politician is conducting yourself in such a way that large numbers of people don’t hate you. Poilievre failed at that, so I think it’s fair and proper that he’s on the receiving end of this political bullying.

And it’s comical that a man so gripped by antagonistic, indecent rhetoric is getting all huffy that citizens are making a mockery of his cowardly and stupid by-election. Obviously, instead of protesting, he should be asking himself why so many citizens are willing to dedicate their free time to fucking with his shit.

This is actually quite disappointing PP has a legitimate independent opponent that is center right and doesn’t adhere to CPC politics.

The Longest Ballot Committee has lost the plot on this one. I never supported them but if this is their level of political acumen than I would argue they do more harm than good.

This guy seriously imagines that there is a significant population who just show up to vote and figure out who to vote for after.

People go in knowing who they’re going to vote for. The LBC only affects throw away votes. Fundamentally it’s HILARIOUS, those ballots are absurd, and it gets everyone talking about electoral reform. It works exactly as intended.

If you spent more than one second thinking about it you would have realized your fear is baseless.

Cons still won the popular vote 33.7% to 32.6%, and that was with Trump.

Where are you even getting those numbers? Election Canada has the vote count as 41.3% for Conservatives and 43.7% for Liberals, the Conservatives absolutely did not win the popular vote.
