Global streamers fight CRTC’s rule requiring them to fund Canadian content

Some of the world’s biggest streaming companies will argue in court that they shouldn’t have to make CRTC-ordered financial contributions to Canadian content and news.

Ban them and have the government host a Jellyfin server free for all Canadians.

        We have Jellyfin at home:

        Link Preview Image
        CBC Gem

Watch popular shows like Schitt's Creek, Luther, Kim's Convenience, plus Films and Live TV on any device

        favicon

        (gem.cbc.ca)

Joking aside, Gem is pretty decent actually. The software does have some issues, but there are several shows I’m looking forward to watching and I get to show support for the CBC.

I stopped using Netflix several years ago, and I have been fine without it. I unsubscribed to Amazon premium (wish I did that because of the union busting), I unsubscribed to Disney+, I unsubscribed to my Apple stuff, I unsubscribed to whatever else, and I subscribed to CBC Gem once Trump really started to push for for the 51st state shit. I have set up Jellyfin on one of my pi’s along with Radarr and Sonarr and I no longer have a problem with sailing the high C’s. I have cancelled my TV subscription because I do not want to pay for any US channel. I have a pihole so that I do not see ads because I do not want to pay google with my eyeballs or the Canadian channels for the US shows that are still airing on them, because I want more CanCom stuff made.

I use Unwatched so that I can still have most of the benefits of Youtube premium without paying the google for it, I hate that it hurts the Canadian channels I watch but I do not want to pay google with money or my eyeballs. I have a pihole for all the other google ads and I do not use google search, wish I could get rid of my google account but I am still a little ways away from doing that.
