Chinese Hackers Hid in a Canadian Telecom for Months—Unpatched | iPhone in Canada

A new federal government report says that Chinese government-backed hackers—known in the cybersecurity world as Salt Typhoon—broke into the network of a Canadian telecom company earlier this year. Chinese hackers used a known flaw in Cisco equipment (called CVE-2023-20198) to snoop around, change settings, and potentially spy on data flowing through the system, sometime before

We need to nationalize a portion of the big 3 telecoms for the security of our communications. They cannot be trusted to keep our data secure.

While agree that comms should be a nationally controlled resource, the procurement space for that equipment would be just as vulnerable under government contract as under the big 3.

If that were the case: perfect. More words & content for the article. Editors love that. I want them shamed.

They’ve all had major screw ups at one time or another.

The bigger the system, the more points of failure there are, and the fewer people there are who understand the “big picture” of the thing well enough to prevent odd problems, or fix it.

They where so deep into the American telecoms it would be naive to think they where not on ours. I mean they where in the system that was created to backdoor the cellular network in America. I think it’s part of the standard so can’t see why Canada would have been different.
