It’s not Guantanamo you gotta worry about. It’s El Salvador and Alligator Auschwitz.

My only conclusion is that the pain numbers haven’t reached a point that requires action. Most people can’t see the forest for the trees and are painfully oblivious to what is going on because of whatever reason. Stupidity, willfully ignorance, it’s hurting the”right” people more, etc.

And by “my numbers” it’s more like 50%-60%. I just want you to understand that just because the government is doing it, doesn’t mean a plurality of the citizens feel the same way. Hell even some of the most ardent GOPers are starting to balk at the shit that’s happening.

Now, with that said, I would not come to the US as a foreigner for any reason right now whatsoever. It’s just not worth it.

By your numbers, 30% of Americans voted to keep Trump away from the Presidency. The other 70% did nothing to keep him out of office.

70% of Americans were happy enough with a Trump presidency that they at the very least did not lift a finger to prevent it. And 50% of the 70% actively supported him.

Was there a car show on that day?

Why now do we want to say that the 70% that enabled Trump “do not feel the same way”?

Sorta… But only about 65% of us voted in the last election and of that only 50% voted for these douchebags. And of those, most of them voted that way because of a single R. So I’d guess around 75% of the people don’t agree with what is going on.

So as a concrete example, I’m an American and I’d go out of my way to help most anyone but I am not the United States.

Americans always tell themselves these lies. Yes, only 65% voted, but the ones who didn’t vote weren’t all non-voting democrats. About half would have voted Trump if they’d voted. It’s not some small minority that supported Trump, it was a majority.

“This isn’t who we are!” cry the Americans, after the political violence that has defined the US since its inception rears its head yet again.

That’s okay, I haven’t trusted America in decades, and I’m American. Canadians are wise to be mistrustful of our GOVERNMENT. Most of the people are mostly cool. It’s just the MAGAs you have to hide your kids from.

As someone who has MAGA relatives in the US, most of the people are definitely not mostly cool. His die-hard supporters may only be about 35% of the population (which is huge) but there’s at least another 15% who are sympathetic to the whole movement. At most, 50% of the population is mostly cool, the other half is mostly very uncool.

Especially because they were doing it to protect their smuggling profits, not out of some great and noble cause.

Ungrateful sods too, because a lot of the war debt that the tariffs were meant to pay off were the result of beating the French on the American continent so that it could be settled by English colonists. Ever wonder why so many places in the US have French names? Detroit, Louisville, St. Louis, Lafayette, Reno (a.k.a. Renault), Arkansas, Illinois…

Eh, I’m a pretty big fan of democracy. I kinda think I would have supported the side that wasn’t about hereditary dictatorship.

But clearly, a lot of history has happened since then.

And that overhaul is both far away and likely to be extremely painful.

I always tell Americans to just try to get out. Failing that, it’s about surviving and not making the situation even worse in the process.

Ah, Threads and some other lower quality social media are full of people making snarky comments to users from the States, saying something to the effect of “we are also in the Americas, so we’re Americans, you’re a US-ian”.

It all basically stems from the fact that in Spanish, the demonym for people from the US is “estadounidense” (United-Statesian) whereas “America” is used to refer to all of North and South America as a regions. People are too dumb to realise “America” has a different connotation in the two languages and it devolves into flame wars.

Not that I’m trying to pawn off our responsibilities, but I think part of that change needs to come from the rest of the world putting us in our place. Quit bending the knee and letting us get away with murder. Sanction our asses.

This is exactly what they want to happen… most people are not actually bad people, they want better standards of living just like you and everyone else.

Some people are terrible and racists… but most people are tired of struggling and the rich getting richer… they just want their jobs back and to do what they are used to doing… they want to be okay because everything is fucked up…

They are being lied to, you are being lied to… everyone is being lied to…

Not everyone has forgotten their humanity, the people in control who want you to believe so, are the ones that keep telling you that they have

I never understood this stereotype (aboot vs about). I’m Canadian, lived here all my life, my family is all Canadian and all have lived here all their lives. I’ve got family all across the country, from the western coast of BC to the eastern coast of Newfoundland, from the northern stretches of Nunavut to the most southern tip of Ontario, and very rarely have I ever heard it pronounced that way. It’s actually really funny as a Canadian to look up “how to speak like a Canadian” and watch how awful most of the “tips” are. I’d recommend it.
