Can’t know for sure. But yeah I don’t really trust them. Privacy is very important to me and yeah mass surveillance is just bad. Privacy should be a human right. Sure mass surveillance could catch some criminals but it’s not worth spying on everyone just for a few bad apples. I don’t like this one bit.

I agree, it’s a hard problem to solve because the people who get into power with the current system have the least incentive to change it.

I’m honestly relieved - if there’s one area in which I think his government has been lacking, it’s been the environmental portfolio. This restraint is a positive step, even though it’s been framed as a reconciliation concern.

It argued in a court filing that it’s not located in Ontario and does not do business in the province. OpenAI also argued the Copyright Act doesn’t apply outside of Canada. The DST needs to come back immediately, at a higher rate and lower threshold. These US tech companies have zero respect for democracy and the rule of law. Brazil knows what’s up, at least, and isn’t taking this stuff lying down

There are a number of interesting links on this page. Also, here’s the contact page for Steven Guilbeault, the minister in charge of national parks. Let them know what you think.

So I have a hard time understanding why anyone cant make IF they want to bad enough in Canada. The opportunities are here (2 of my kids are self starting entrepreneurs) if you work hard enough. Yes, wages are stagnant if you’re working retail at a mall, but no one’s stopping anyone from upgrading their education and getting a better job. Our immigrants do it, Canadians can do it too. You’re literally saying that people could be having a better life if they wanted it bad enough, and thereby saying loud and clear that people who are having a bad life clearly just don’t want it bad enough. Immigrants are treated pretty badly and not paid nearly well enough, and you’re being a real ass for using their desperation and shitty situations as justification for invalidating Canadians’ struggles. You’re also saying that “no one is stopping anyone from upgrading their education” while clearly not understanding at all what that takes, especially if you’re coming from a place where you can have a family member pay for everything. Working during school, especially the amount that 2025 demands for you to make ends meet, is crushing and, in many cases, basically impossible. Getting a job after that is also completely fucked for many of its own reasons. I did everything right and am good at my job but getting a job right now, even with experience, is next to impossible as companies refuse to hirer new or intermediate people and try to rely on senior people who will retire with no one to fill their roles. Everything is so much more fucked than you clearly have even the barest understanding of. You’re still the asshole, bud.

So many people, businesses, and countries have given Trump BJs to stay in his favour and all it does it show him he can come back and bully them again for more. But I’m sure it’ll work out this time.

Ontario has 3 times the population and significantly more cross-border & international traffic. The fact that Alberta has half as many cases indicates something is not being managed well. My anecdotal experience with family who moved to AB is that Danielle Smith supporters lean heavily anti-vax/science. (Replying to you cuz I pre-emptively blocked buddy below due to his post history indicating he’s insufferable.)

The tolerances are probably the same as aircraft at the minimum. Most likely uses similar tolerance to the space program. You wouldn’t even think of trying to remachine if it had a energetic collision.

Yup — which also means you can’t just pander to an extremist base and win by having the other parties “split the vote”. And you can vote the party you actually support most, and not worry about vote splitting by ranking other parties with policies close to your leanings higher, and parties you despise lower or not at all.

The whole thing is so frustrating. Canada has always been in bed with the USA. USA funds Israel down to their universal healthcare. Truth & Reconciliation wise… I think Canadians need to acknowledge that our quality of life was built on the very injustices we’re waking up to. Our gov’t does nothing for Palestine because they know that Canadians will care more about the negative effects to their standard of living cause by a fallout with the USA, than Palestinians. I don’t know what Canada could do that would meaningfully benefit Palestinians, that wouldn’t also aggravate the USA. I think in the long term Canada undermining the USA’s economic dominance is probably the only thing we can do unless we’re willing to endure some suffering ourselves.
