Working on my #pathfinder2e Grey Corsair campaign I'm about to launch, and I think the Steel Falcons need an epaulet like the Golden Legion, but I'm not too good at building items.

What do you guys think of a level 4 item that gives you a 1/day 1 action "mark target in 60 ft, you and all allies deal +1d6 precision damage against that target until the start of your next turn"?

@SilverGM seems fine to me, but i don't know that much about game balance.

Feels a little strong for a level 4 item but if there are other items that do something similar, it's balanced just fine. BUT, even if it IS a little overpowered, it won't be in a few levels. And, of course, there's always the option to make it a Relic that grows with the players' levels if it's something they really seem to enjoy, which gives you the ability to tweak it a bit as it grows

SilverGM Looking through AoN, the only thing I’m seeing that comes anywhere close to this kind of power budget is the Resonating Crystal Boots, which are a Level 8 item and do an average of something like 9 damage against as many creatures as you can walk past.
Your item looks to do about 15 damage to one target, with no saves and the potentual of no one being within melee range. Just based off of vibes, I’d place this at a similar level. That said, I wouldn’t hesitate to give it to the party. I think giving players over-leveled items is one of the best things you can do to leverage the game’s strong level system.

@kichae Well, there is the fact that you actually have to deal damage to the target to gain the benefit, so there'll usually be a save against that. I was comparing the damage against a level 1 harm, which would do about 12 damage if you fail the save. Maybe I should drop it to an extra 1d4.

SilverGM Yeah, but one hit per round is also a fairly good estimate, assuming you’re throwing primarily Pl-2 to PL+0 creatures at them.
I think that 1d4 would put it around Level 5, based on what I’ve seen.I wish we had more concrete guidance on item level damage and usage frequency, though.
