I hate this game so much.

And I thought the Commodore 64 port of Castlevania was awful. But at least it was consistently awful.

Castlevania Adventure, meanwhile, seems like it’s going to be great. Then—BAM—jump mechanics become complete ass.

It slowly dawns on you… wait minute, Christopher Belmont moves so slowly, he might as well be a snail. Every hazard requires you to be half off the platform edge with only one or two pixels where you can safely launch yourself from. The jump is the same height regardless of input.

Konami built the damn game around this awful movement instead of, you know, fixing it. It’s as though devs implied “get good” except games are actually supposed to be fun.

Castlevania for C64 never gives you hope. Castlevania Adventure tricks you with the right atmosphere then snatches it away with its piss poor movement.
