Right now, Canada needs to be very careful about American refugee claimants.
The obvious ones should absolutely be received: people most vulnerable to the Trump regime. That includes visible and sexual minorities explicitly being targeted—along with those facing gendered violence.
But those who feel entitled to live here because they believe it’s USA Lite—and pine for the “good old days”, back when it was run by Democrats? They should be sent back.
Why? Because we’re not an emotional support country for Americans who are just politically inconvenienced.
Protection for people in real danger.
No special treatment for people chasing a different political weather forecast. -

As I understand it, any American who can convert to the Canadian economy should be welcome. The economy of Canada needs all the help it can get, especially in terms of workers and people to pay into the system. I fail to see how this kind of post is the least bit humanitarian. -

Asylum isn’t “Canada needs workers” or “they’ll pay taxes.” It’s protection for people facing credible danger and persecution. If someone qualifies for PR or a work permit because they can contribute, great. But that’s a different lane.
