I wouldn’t have gotten far at all, probably.

@spinning_bird I was thinking exactly the same thing.

It made me upset actually. Hollow Knight started out AMAZING. I mean, the graphical style, the world theme being unique, the music blowing my mind with its sheer quality and atmosphere, the level design, so on and so on.

But then, about halfway through suddenly it makes every effort it can to make Dark Souls look easy. And they start making everything super dark (the thing with the singing miner got to me a little in particular) and so on. It wasn't that I couldn't play it further, it was that it completely stopped being fun. I still got maybe 4/5 of the way through, but I just stopped playing because it simply wasn't fun anymore.

I hear Silksong has one really bad area in particular that makes people ragequit.

@NullNowhere @spinning_bird What got me about the dark turn was that it affected even the early areas. Suddenly there were a lot of annoying things even in early areas that you just have to pass through or whatever.

Though I stick to my statement that the thing with the singing miner upset me... Stuff like that sure didn't help.

@nazokiyoubinbou @NullNowhere @spinning_bird it's fascinating I'm finally seeing some of this, Hollow Knight is a beautiful game and I get the raves, but my wife is VERY good at games, and same with her, she started, got partway in and kept hitting a wall. Dark Souls style. I don't like super tough games - I always marveled when people can beat these things, like, Cuphead. My kid is crazy good at games too and hit a wall with that one. And I had other friends telling me they'd beaten it. People do, I guess. Gameplay videos and such. But damn. Always wondered the percentages. How many people are just like to HELL with this 😂

@jake4480 @NullNowhere @spinning_bird I mean, I could do it. I know I could. And probably the same for each of you.

But at that point it require so much patience and just redoing the same stuff over and over. And that just isn't fun. A little challenge can be fun, but redoing the same thing over and over because in phase two of the boss fight it's really hard to avoid an attack that almost one-hit kills or something just is not fun.

I guess that's the line. Some people apparently enjoy doing the same thing over and over 50 times. But some people get frustrated and tired of it and just wanted to enjoy the nice atmosphere or story or whatever and now it's ruined.

Unfortunately, we fall into the latter. But so do quite a large number of people... (I daresay a majority?)
