@davidgerard have they even been substantially reduced? I mean, I know it’s been decided now that they’re inevitable, but that’s the extent of my knowledge on the issue.

I just wish the damn things would go away@Da_Gut @davidgerard They can't be reduced. "Hallucinations" are just the system working to generate plausible looking text as it has been trained to.
The fact that a high percentage of the time it spits out text that is factually correct is a side-effect that is interesting, and tells us some neat things about how we encode knowledge in our texts, but you can't get rid of hallucinations from what is essentially trained to be a hallucination generating machine

@davidgerard I decided to do an experiment/torture myself with the default image model you get when you open Gemini. The prompt: "create a grid showing the flags of european countries in alphabetical order. there should be labels below them stating their name. the one for Liechtenstein should have a note below it saying "doubly-landlocked"."
Result below. Spotted errors are in the alt text, but TL;DR: 92.5% of the flags had major errors. -
