I think we need to start checking the batteries in the carbon monoxide detectors at rpg conventions.

"You should run a game as written before making changes to it..."

I shall do *exactly* what I want to do and you *should* fuck off.

@Taskerland That's the air recycling system in the whole of the hobby needing checked then.

For every "I play the way my players find fun" there's a "you aren't enjoying this correctly" person.

@Taskerland Whenever I run a game as written I feel horribly constrained

A perfectly natural response. I remember people being "you aren't doing it properly if you aren't doing it BtB, for as long as I've been in gaming"

Which is basically the entire history of gaming I suppose really.

I think that's part of the quasi-religious tension that gaming has. RPGs seem to create very "Council of Nicea" vibes from time to time, with people gathering to discuss their version of "The Book"

@Taskerland Interpretation won't stop something being run 'as written', if you're interpreting the writing.

@Printdevil if you really have your own version of the book, then you have no house rules - just a very small print-run.

Death to house rules! Long live source files!

That is why the rpg I am writing is calling them guidelines.

@Taskerland What can I say? Some people are oblivious to the concept of "desktop run." I sure didn't need to see the "big picture" to know V5 not granting any real character advancement other than diablerie was unplayable for me (or ANYONE who doesn't want their game to be strictly about a bunch of diablerists).
