@bedirthan They totally fell into a trap, because there's no way that this controversy wasn't engineered in some respects to boost the sales of RS 2e or to generate website clicks. They should've ignored the RW complaints (which I'm sure number in the teens) just like they shouldn't have written that Medium post.
@Tim_Eagon I'd hope they ban a game that said "kill all Demokrats" too

DriveThruRPG/Roll20 demonstrated the courage of their convictions today by writing a lengthy post about the Rebel Scum controversy from last week...on Medium instead of their website's blog...and only linking to it from their official Bluesky account instead of their Facebook or Twitter account. Really shows their commitment to their ideals, and is in no way pandering to a left-leaning audience in a way that has backfired spectacularly.
@Tim_Eagon I'd already been down on buying from DTRPG, and Roll20 is hot garbage, but now I'm not using either ever again. I wish Kickstarters would figure out a different PDF fulfillment method so I wouldn't even have to go there for those. Not even bothering to read their latest post, their support response told me all I needed to know about them.

@Tim_Eagon Oh, for the love of Buddha, Shiva, Coyote and Christ. Otherwise known as "for fuck's sake"...

@Tim_Eagon The disingenuousness of this “statement” is unbelievable. “Gee whiz gang, we’ve been good guys in the past!” is a helluva note. But then again, when the rest of their rationale is “we were only enforcing the rules” and “those guys were kind of assholes about it”, I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised.

@Tim_Eagon Pardon my ignorance, but do you mind if I ask for a TL;DR of what happened?

@bedirthan The offending passage doesn't even rise to that level.

@sapphire @glennmagusharvey Rebel Scum is a SW-inspired RPG that features a foreword that talks about "punching Republikans" (the Empire analog and obvious allusion to US politics). DriveThruRPG got a few complaints about the game last year, so they reached out to the publisher who refused to remove the offending passage - as a result, DriveThruRPG delisted the game. Rascal News ran an article about it last week, which is why DriveThruRPG/Roll20 are trying to do damage control today.

@cheddar_goblin Oligopolies are fun! Despite disliking the interface, I've grown to like Itch.io much more.

@audreygwinter That about sums it up.
