    First... Monday of the year?

    As we all start 2026, let's help each other as best as we can. What are your plans for the year? Do you have a community around you? Mutual aid can mean money for bills but also just talking with someone - sorrows shared are sorrows halved, if you know of sayings like that. Did you hear sayings like those growing up?
    I'm hoping I have community around me too. Esp as I'm still job hunting for #accessibility and #UX roles, and open to pivoting to loc or PM roles.

      @kitwinter
      Concerning "sorrows shared are sorrows halved", all my life I've been treated *exactly* the opposite way, like a *deeply* unwanted emotional burden to be punished and isolated for *daring* to be upset.

      (And really, only once have I run into someone who made me ask, "Is this how people feel about *me?*")

        @pteryx I unfortunately know how that goes - feeling like if I show emotion, that I'm punished for feeling or existing at all.

          Back when I was in school, I pretty much literally *was* so punished. They built little rooms explicitly for me to cry in, *twice*. They got so sick of my reporting verbal bullies (whom they insisted must be called "teasers" instead of bullies, and then wondered why I was complaining about something that sounded an awful lot like "teachers") that they tried to find *any* reason to punish me instead of them.

            @pteryx It didn't get to that point with me in school (I did get bullied, especially in middle and high school, but still). But - I definitely feel this. "Not making a scene" is what society often rewards - even if making a scene out of protest or because you don't know what else to DO re: bullies. My school's response to me getting death threats was basically a collective shrug and blaming me. So yeah. I get it. I'm sorry.
