    In some circumstances It's kinda tacky to refer to other rule systems generally in your rulebook. It's fine to talk about influences, but for example:

    Doing Y is simpler than in other rule systems
    ... or
    The <subsystem> is an innovative approach that does...
    First dear reader: It often is not.

    Second: I just don't care. Just tell me how I do the thing. I don't need your meta-commentary, koolaid, or the toot of your own horn.

      Also pet peeve: Things like

      Doing Y is simple.
      Don't tell me what is or isn't simple. Hilariously, these statements are often followed by 7 steps and are decidedly not simple. ​​

      Granted: What the writer here is often doing is trying to find a natural segue into talking about
      the thing, and accidentally being annoying / saying useless things as a result. Knock it off!

        @NullNowhere one of my alpha readers sent a document back with the note "nobody gives a shit that you think this is cool. Show them, and they'll conclude for themselves that it's cool."

        I ended up rewriting that entire section of the book, and the book benefited from it.
