Hopefully this marks a change in the non-d20 #TTRPG coverage by the bigger names in the hobby, and we might even start seeing indie RPGs reaching heights I wouldn't imagine a few months ago.

Ginny Di's newest video, on the Gr8 system (https://elisheva-games.itch.io/the-gr8-system) is an example of an indie game being highlighted and a healthy approach and commentary to the "try other systems" discourse.
I like that other systems are being brought up and talked at all, in a channel as large as hers.

THAT BEING SAID
- and I will be that annoying guy that will undermine the message of the video a bit, so i'm sorry in advance -
by her description, she seems to have played it looking for the same sort of session and experience one would have with D&D.

Having never played it (take this with a boulder of salt), a typical adventure centered on combat, doesn't seem to be the sort of game where GR8 would shine.
Especially not with the same table dynamics as D&D when it comes to rolls, effects of success and consequences for failure.

Finally, I liked what she said about about "playing an RPG like a game designer", being critical of the rules.
However then at the end she said "you don't play other RPGs to replace the one you like, but to understand why you like the one you like"...
That didn't sit well with me.

I understand the sentiment. And as you play more games you will understand more about what you prefer and why, no doubt.
But the phrasing seems to imply the main reason you play other games is to try to improve your preferred one only, instead of, you know, to play and enjoy it as a game.

I'm sure this wasn't meant to undermine non-D&D RPGs, it might not have been bad phrasing at all, just bad interpretation on my part.
As I said I'm happy indie games are being talked about, at all, by bigger voices.
"Old man yells at clouds" moment over.

@lumipate tbh i would be surprised if ginny d ever gets into any non-dnd game big time. she seems to be very far down the dnd hole from what i can see.
and with that i can actually see the sentiment of improving the one game she likes with other games.
but i don't know her personally, i might just be wronglove to see people who mainly cover dnd cover other games tho, it makes me optimistic about the ttrpg hobby in general ^^

@risa one of the D&D centric wines that started to highlight some other systems is Bob World builder.
Most videos are still D&D centric but he takes every opportunity to talk about Dungeon Crawl Classics, Shadowdark, and sometimes even whacky stuff like Skate Wizards

@risa I do love a bunch of smaller channels that talk a lot about smaller games though, and i hope their following increases!
I don´t have a ton of followers but i think i'll start highlighting some of the crerators in the space that i think deserve more love
