    Ever wonder why Descending AC was ever a thing? I have a rather odd answer. It's how you were taught in school.

    No, shit. Your math teacher taught you how you would think of Armor Class.

    (This is limited to American Schools. Every country has its own standards, and these also affect your approach to Armor Class. Just differently.)

      @philviverito It's an interesting theory.

      There's a lot more to the wargames side of it though - for example: https://boggswood.blogspot.com/2019/04/thoughts-on-arnesons-armor-class.html

      Armor Class Numbers?

      Because you died when you were hit in Chainmail, we were using damage dice, hit dice and armor classes within about a month of our s...

      There's discussion also on the OD&D Proboards between the old timers on it as well over the years.

      IMO, it's what got published - Gary/David figured that most referees would pick an approach (CM, AltC or their own) and roll with it.

        @chgowiz The more I've reread this, the more interesting it is.
