What gets me is that he's not even good at *pretending* to be intelligent, yet somehow fools people.

Like, for example, *somehow* getting away with claiming to be a physics genius by making claims like "physics really makes you think" (instead of, say, peppering high school physics metaphors into his speech like a decent author might have a physics genius character do).
