I've been assiduously disengoogling myself this year, which is a hell of a process—a lot like separating tangled strands of Christmas lights—but the thing I'm having the hardest time with is Calendar. Thunderbird is good for e-mail, but the lack of syncing means it falls short for scheduling.

What's a good alternative? I'm not going to use Outlook, so forget that, but I do need the ability to sync between desktop (Windows), laptop (Fedora Linux) and phone (Android).

@KeithAmmann Sounds like you want something with CalDAV support. There are some self-hosted solutions out there, as well as managed hosted plans. This KB page from Tasks lists a decent selection of options.

EDIT: would be infinitely more useful if I provided the link, huh? https://tasks.org/docs/caldav_intro/

@KeithAmmann thunderbird actually does sync calendars if you set it up with an CalDAV online account/calendar. To get these without Google on android you need to buy an app once and should be able to use them with most calendar apps afterwards.

@KeithAmmann I've struggled with this as well.

Currently, I've got a little miniPC right next to me here running NextCloud on Linux. I got a calendar program for Android to access it on my phone. (with a bit of effort) I use it on my desktop. I can access it outside of the home on mobile or in-home on my desktop.

It works - for me. Now I have to move Mrs Chgowiz over and she loves Google still. *sigh*
