Securing my #MonsterdonBingo at literally the last moment with Frank's Act of Sacrifice to destroy the Martian spacecraft

and of course marking off "An Abrupt Ending" which became very clear as the movie carried on

This one was fun, perfect balance of "huh, pretty good" and "this is atrocious". Have a nice night y'all!

              👁️

              Cool eyeball

Certainly a way to make a first impression on the viewer. Can this movie pay it off?

'I want to see across the entire EM spectrum'

                translated from dingdong as:

"I wish to increase the input to my visual cortex by an order of magnitude."

(assuming, as this writing would, that the density of cells sensitive to the other parts of the spectra were the same as in the visual spectra. I suppose you could get that down to more like 2-3x as much input by changing the sampling density. still.)

Sci-fi movies forgot how to have chemistry stuff just randomly arranged on screen. It's a shame.

Cute monkey actor eyedrops. Hope they treated the animals okay in this one, based on what I know is coming from the graphic novel adaptation (which I think was just… the entire events of the movie)

                    "What did he see?"

Well, let's find out. But first, a series of wacky mad vision scientist adventures, beginning with a nice, healthy cigarette.

The writing is really good so far, and the performances are supporting its quality. Even this guy flirting with his… funder? is like an interesting interaction, and thankfully not a skeevy one.

Yea, well, we'll get there. It's a 60s flick, after all.

                          "Alright, open your eyes"

There's so much foreshadowing in this story. Chekhov's normal biology. Things that you wouldn't think about as foreshadowing at first.

Pacing is tight. We're already past "oh yea, the bandages".

I wonder if we'll get any insomnia in this. I don't think the comic touched on that, but that's one of the things that really stuck out to me about the implications of the premise.

Ah, okay, here's the (first?) sexploitation scene.

I was just about to say that it's nice that this woman (acts like she) enjoys the flirtation.

But anyway, here's the undiluted leering horniness.

At least they show some naked guys and cut around the changes-your-rating nudity. For the 60s that was downright tasteful.

I don't really care for how quickly Diane gets over James being able to see her naked, though. But, I get it, the story wants to move on and at least took the time to have her express uncertainty.

And now, for scrubbing-in! Gotta have it.

Very normal surgical response to using a scalpel that just touched someone else's blood to cut a person.

That man would be torn to pieces for the physical risk alone, let alone the violence or unprofessionalism.

So far this is *exactly* the plot of the comic, so I guess they are pretty much one-to-one.

I think it was not uncommon to do this in 1963, especially given what a stir this movie made. It was a sure thing to adapt it. And the art is really cool!

Anyway, reminder that the comic is here:

                                          "The effect is cumulative"

                                          That seems good. Good, right?

Anyway, James seems like he's jonesing for some more eye drops.
