Apollo isn't "from" Minneapolis, & I'm not "from" Milwaukee. We grew up together in small town/rural Iowa.
I gotta be honest, I think one of the reasons "they're not from here" isn't playing well in metropolitan areas is that cities are defined just as much by the people who embrace them as home as by people who "have always been here."
Oh "they're not originally from here?" Neither am I.

It shouldn't be a flex to live in one place your whole life and never move.
I grew up in one of those places that was extremely harsh to outsiders, and I haven't been back since I left the state. I knew people who had lived in the state for a decade plus and were still "outsiders."
When people behave this way, I think it's a red flag to maybe just avoid them all together. At least, it is for me.
