βCool. Roll initiative. Your level 4 party watches the guide who was trying to lead you away from here return to their natural form, a fully formed adult Steel Dragon.β
-
These are the natural results of their actions. This is how they learn.
(To be clear, Iβm mostly joking - if my players arenβt paying attention, Iβm gonna take that as a critique of my GMing and try to tighten it up)

Thereβs a sign showing a bird eating a humanβ¦
Letβs go forward.

TBF if I saw that I would laugh it off as a joke.

Townsfolk: βNo one dares to go even near these woods. Even $WellKnownHighlevelLegendaryHero found his end there!β
Tavern: βKeep away from the woods to the east!β
City guards (obviously more experienced and way higher level than the group): βWeβve lost so many troops around there, no one goes there in that wishes to live on.β
βEveryday there are funerals on the towns cemetery - concerning part is, that that only happens on the northern cemetery, where people from the eastern fields near the woods are buried.β
βThe east gate of the town is closed. Only the grave diggers may use it to deliver new corpses of adventurous groups and heroes like youβ
βYou look weaker than the other bunch who dare to come here. Are you suicidal or β¦?β
βYou have the feeling that somethingβs a bit unusual here. Everyone is armed, even the children.β
βYou begin to notice the fine gear and the muscular shape of the bloody, dismembered dead bodies constantly arriving at the east gate.β
βOn your way east toward the forest you pass many warning signs, each one getting drastically more graphic that the ones beforeβ¦β
βYou arrive at the edge of the wood, eager to enter. Your game master breaks the fourth wall and directly asks you bluntly βAre you sure you want to do that?β and hands you some diceβ¦β

look, i donβt get to play a PC often, since iβm the forever GM. if iβm able to, iβll play the most stupid PCs possible so that they can die and iβm able to use more of my PC ideas

Our friend nearly rage quit towards the end of a long session. Everyone wanted to finish up and we blow past obvious signs. He died trying to save us

I remember being part of TPK with almost the same. The only difference was Shadowrun rather than heroic fantasy

Yeah, Iβd also like the original art without text over it!
EDIT this is the oldest similar version TinEye could find me, but I couldnβt find the credit along with it.
