      @peterdutoit Had no clue that style of cooling tower was used for coal too, always associated them with nuclear.

          @401matthall @squishymage42 @peterdutoit that's such a frequent misconception, that it's not rare for press illustrations for articles talking about nuclear, to actually show coal or petrol plants.

          Basically all electricity generation from heat is steam engines, we heat water to turn a turbine, and we exhaust the hotter water through such a cooling tower.

            @tshirtman @401matthall @peterdutoit Yeah, when you say it that way, it was something I always know, but associated coal plants more with smoke stacks like these ones from Lansing, MI that we called Winken, Blinken, and Nod
