@rgegriff If corporations were actually people, I'd have called for a mental health check on microsoft a long time ago. Something is not right up in that brain pan and they need some new meds or to break up with that abusive lover or something. Shit ain't right.

Yup. I'm old; the VMS text UI blows Unix and its variants and emulators into a cocked hat. The Linux text UI is horrible.What am I using? Guess.

@rgegriff they took an OS, and turned it into "now what if you had no control over what it does, and also it just does whatever it wants, not what it *should* do".

@rgegriff Easy, M$ tries to think for their customers, instead of with them. Also money! PRoblem is, it's still working, as companies don't want to switch and they are the ones M$ really makes money with.

@thecrawford @rgegriff eh. probably more down to shifting resources to copilot and firing people that were Windows experts (admittedly I don’t have any data to back that up, but it tracks with what all the tech companies have been doing)

@rgegriff The window managers (I've mainly used XFCE and KDE) have a lot of nifty features: stuff that could've been implemented during Windows 8 if it was designed by the Powertoys and Sysinternals people instead of a coked-up touchscreen salesman.
The Metro environment worked kinda well on tablets, but I'm still shocked that Microsoft completely ignored the ramifications of forcing a half-baked parallel ecosystem of fullscreen-only applications onto every desktop, and replacing the startmenu with a fullscreen version.
My dad still gets fired up when reminded of the Windows RT situation: MS ported the entire OS to energy efficient ARM systems only to ban them from running any desktop software beyond Office and the mediocre pack-in stuff (because they didn't allow desktop apps on the Windows Store).
The Copilot push is arguably less agressive, in the sense that it seems to be sequestered to action buttons in applications, along with the telemetry/spyware/adware that's been active by default since 10. -
@thecrawford @kevinrns @T045T @rgegriff I migrated to Linux (linuxmint) when Windows 7 died, I looked at Win8 and said no way.I have not used Windows since then.(and I don’t miss it)
