@guephren Although the stages of creation are simple (sketching, inking and colouring), the thought process and development are anchored in what I learned at Art & Design school many years ago. My fantasy cartographer endeavours came together by combining my passion for maps and RPGs with a long graphic design career.

I do have an good archive of map making tips & tricks on my Patreon, all available from the second tier up: https://www.patreon.com/wfgWorkshop

@wfgWorkshop Thanks for the tip! Your Guildenhoff town map is a beautiful piece of art.

@guephren Thanks, that’s very kind of you. Sorry I couldn’t provide you with a more precise answer. In the end, it all comes down to a good design process that allows some adaptability because each map has its own story to tell. So I would say the most important thing is to let the story and lore guide your decisions!

@wfgWorkshop I've done one or two maps but they are HARD to get right. I mostly focus on drawing characters so I have almost no practice with maps, but I love looking at well made ones.

It's not the same thing but it's part of why I really like the Mini Metro game, it's very aesthetically pleasing to me.

No problem and thank you for the answer.
