      @JonathanMBR probably the first time I've actually applauded a decision made here in a while...

          @JonathanMBR @imp3tuz

          Legitimate interest.

          "The export ban on lithium concentrates had originally been scheduled to come into effect in January 2027, a deadline the government hoped would push mining companies to begin processing and refining the mineral locally

          Most of the concentrate is exported to China for further processing into battery-grade materials, but Zimbabwe has been pressing the miners to process more of the minerals in the country as it seeks greater benefits from the global shift to cleaner sources of ‌energy."

          The immediate ban covers all raw minerals already in transit and will remain in place until further notice.

            @earthworm @JonathanMBR I'm really hoping this leads to a more stabilised and accessible power grid.

            people often forget that a good chunk of our country still doesnt have access to reliable electricity 😗

            and yoh! lithium mining was causing serious problems for the locals hey

            Lithium mining in Zimbabwe: a story of loss for one community

            Chinese-owned mines are extracting lithium from Zimbabwe, which has the world’s 9th biggest deposits. This displaces rural villagers.

              @earthworm @JonathanMBR and with any boom, human rights abuses too.

              Lithium mining in Zimbabwe

              Minerals like lithium are critical components in renewable energy, and for countries they can be a major source of revenue. However, mining often contributes to adverse environmental and human rights impacts. In Zimbabwe, Danish Institute for Human Rights is partnering with the Zimbabwe Environmental Law Association, to document the gendered effects of lithium mining.

                  Raw materials for the “green” economy are extracted and purified through the extermination and poisoning of the global periphery.

                  The global financial and economic core only creates products that requires its supply chain. True human invention can instead be devoted to prosperity locally. This invention is the key, not only to climate resilience, but decoupling and dismantling the planet killing economy.

                    @JonathanMBR About time countries resource-raped by greedy nations stood up for themselves.

                    Those with resources for electronic devices will have huge leveraging power doing so rather than being abused.
