Thanks. No idea whether he will respond or even notice. I will try the same thing with other GP members over there 💚

Have since messaged Natalie Bennett on BSky who replied saying that she understands the argument for a Green Party instance and more presence on fedi but, they want reach via big socials. Also wanted stats.

I replied with @fedidb stats link and mentioned there’s plenty of bridges from fedi to big social and said it would make a big point to post from fedi with bridge going out rather than the other way round.

My local party is really small, and don't know a lot about the fediverse.

If you or others get some ideas / plan that would be really helpful. I'm not tech confident enough to set up a server for them, but would help if others have done this to learn from.

If you want to make change to the GPEW, best to put yourself forward to join Policy Development committee (anyone who is a member can contribute), or join the spring conference (online). I'll DM you with details.

@pvonhellermannn @robtherunt @aaron A UK Green party instance certainly would be great news!
The German Greens (die Grünen) certainly seem to have made positive experiences with their instance gruene.social, with relatively modest operational costs (630€ for 2025, for 1610 accounts, see here for reference, translate should hopefully be able to handle it for non Germans: https://netzbegruenung.de/blog/2025-auf-gruene-social-in-zahlen/ )

Interesting. I have posted those stats to Natalie Bennett on BSky.

Hello UK #GreenParty members on here: I would really like the Green Party to set up on #Mastodon. Our local party (closed down after last election by somewhat erratic unilateral decision) has just reestablished and it is all X, FB and Insta. I have suggested Mastodon but noone knows it. I will work on it locally but is there any way to take it to the top somehow? Can we get together on here to write an email? Any suggestions welcome. #UKpolitics

@pvonhellermannn "Reach" is important. Nevertheless, engagement is also important and would be a big part of a Mastodon presence. @HI_Greens also on here.

@robtherunt @pvonhellermannn @aaron @fedidb why do they prefer a "big reach" to X's mix of far-right supporters, Putinbots and fellow-travellers to a smaller engagement with people who I suspect are more likely to be sympathetic to their views? Does GPEW hold its real-world engagement events only in nazi-bars?

@pvonhellermannn @OneInterestingFact One part of the UK already has a very active Green party presence on mastodon, including replacing X share links with Mastodon share links recently @greenpartyni

I can thoroughly recommend mastodon.green as a place to be.
