    Texas A&M Bans Plato - Daily Nous

    Drop the race and gender material from your course and the Plato readings, or teach a different course. You have a day to decide. That's a paraphrase of what Martin Peterson, professor of philosophy at Texas A&M University, was told by university officials today about his upcoming "Contemporary Moral Problems" course, due to start next

      @ASegar WTF!
      This is scary in the extreme.
      Enough of this sh*t…

      Prof’s reply…
      “Please note that my course does not “advocate” any ideology; I teach students how to structure & evaluate arguments commonly raised in discussions of contemporary moral issues.” (See “The Charade of Banning ‘Advocacy’“.) He also reminded his chair & #college officials that “the U.S. #constitution protects my course content,” as do the norms of…

        @ASegar I would be very cautious in the hiring graduates from TX, OK, FL, or other states that treat education as nothing more than a vocational necessity.

            I do not understand the reasoning!?! What BS are they claiming? Plato is foundational. You may as well scrap philosophy altogether.

                      @Nonilex @ASegar He's not a stoic philosopher like his pupil's pupil Marcus Aurelius. It doesn't teach morality or ethics like the bible.

                      I kid you not, that was the explanation from one of my college "educated" friends who is a Trumper.

                      I now really suspect his degree from a Texas A&M. He studied history which sounds more like Texas history than US or World history.

                      He mows lawns though because he didn't know what to do with a history degree?!? And he think college is worthless.

                        I've often wondered that about George Washington University because it lets Jonathan Turley public spout all kinds of fatuous bullshit.
