      @neenamaiya

      German people mostly complain if the local bread isn't up to their standards (i e. most places the British colonized).

            @juergen_hubert Do they talk endlessly about beer? (I’m genuinely curious. I really enjoy hearing / reading about people’s conversation.)

              I don't drink alcohol myself, but yes, this is a regular topic of discussion, with people comparing different brands.

                Bread is Serious Business in Germany. You can tell because there are so many folk tales which detail all the horrible, horrible things that happen to people because they disrespect bread.

                      Though one German specialty that gets talked about a lot is "Kaffee und Kuchen" ("coffee and cake"), which is particularly popular for family gatherings.

                      The custom is, an extended family meets on a weekend afternoon (usually at 3 pm or so), and each branch of the family brings their own cake. There is a lot of discussion about cake recipes at these events.

                        Thanks! There are still a few further "bread sacrilege"-related tales which I have translated but not yet put on the wiki.

                        And note that these tales are about _ordinary_ bread - the tales about blessed altar bread are on a whole other level.
