    @ratsnakegames

    Not an option if I want to visit my aging father, and I do.

    @juergen_hubert Yeah, that's a valid reason.

    I'm just mad at people who carry their cold into the office rather than work from home or, y'know, calling in sick when they definitely are

      Remember, folks: If you have a nasty cold, wear a mask on public transportation even if all your COVID tests have turned up negative. You don't need to spread the viruses of the common cold around either, and wearing a mask helps with that.

      It's what people in civilized countries would do.

      Well, yeah. But I live in the United States. We gave up that "civilized" stuff a long time ago.

        Yeah, if this cold persists, I'll stick to working from home for next week.

        Which is fortunately an option for my place of work, although we aren't supposed to do it all the time without a special dispensation. But a cold is certainly a sufficient reason to stay home.

          @juergen_hubert remember that those doctor masks are what you wear to avoid transmitting, the FFP is to avoid receiving.

            @fnordius

            Don't FFP masks also help with reducing transmission?

              First, yeah, it's not just SARS-CoV-2 you ought to avoid spreading; second, even if it were, two words: false negatives.

                      That frequently has nothing to do with wisdom, and everything with circumstances.

                        @Xopher @juergen_hubert I think the point is that no country has high rates of mask wearing and that we should all strive for civilization regardless.

                          I dunno. Mask wearing was well established in East Asia long before COVID hit.
