@stux really seems like this has ebbed and flowed throughout all of human history. that being said, i might argue it's worse today with the ability for massive outreach from modern technologies

@stux My friend worked in the control room of a large casino here in Vancouver and she said they got to decide who the winners are, if any. The bigger problem are the online casinos with apps, every commercial break on TV churning out ads for them, it’s very annoying. The government says 3.3% of people who gamble develop serious addiction issues, doesn’t seem that much but 3.3% too many.

@stux Caveat: you can earn money gambling if you stick only to games like poker where you're playing against the other players _and_ you understand the game and the odds and have the stainless-steel nerves it takes to follow the odds no matter how attractive the current opportunity looks. Oh, and you know how to read other people really really well.
