@stux I can't fathom why a country stops working and goes shutdown when a general budget, or federal budget, is not approved.
Can't they, like, extend the last year budget for another year? That's how European countries work.

The vast majority of income taxes are collected by employers and automatically sent to the appropriate level of government. It is possible for employees to submit a change of withholding and bring it to zero and then not pay their taxes, but that is an awful lot of effort across an awful lot of people that isn't going to happen.What can happen is for Democratic run state and local governments ...
