Hello UK #GreenParty members on here: I would really like the Green Party to set up on #Mastodon. Our local party (closed down after last election by somewhat erratic unilateral decision) has just reestablished and it is all X, FB and Insta. I have suggested Mastodon but noone knows it. I will work on it locally but is there any way to take it to the top somehow? Can we get together on here to write an email? Any suggestions welcome. #UKpolitics

I messaged Zack via BlueSky yesterday saying he needs to be on here properly and also suggested that maybe Green Party should run their own instance. Would show proper commitment. -

Yes, thank you! Learned that this morning! Brilliant. Others have also pointed me to @greenpartyni and @WestNorthantsGreens - i hadn’t realised. Will see what we can do locally (in #Eastbourne). And also what can be done to establish Mastodon more in #GreenParty as a whole. Though aware that v clearly not the first to come up with this idea.

The German Greens (die Grünen) certainly seem to have made positive experiences with their instance gruene.social, with relatively modest operational costs (630€ for 2025, for 1610 accounts, see here for reference, translate should hopefully be able to handle it for non Germans: https://netzbegruenung.de/blog/2025-auf-gruene-social-in-zahlen/ ) -

I've emailed the Green Party about this directly, twice and Zack once. No response from either, which is not useful. Perhaps if you can put together an email with multiple signatories that would help (I would sign).
The Zack bot, while welcome, isn't all that useful for engagement. -

The US Green Party has the same problem. They are all on fascist X, Meta and TikTok. It drives me nuts. This morning the LeftUnitySlate.org leader was slandered on corporate social media. They were not even aware that part of the problem is that corporate social media allows, and maybe even amplifies such content. Here it would be taken down by the volunteer administrators.
What to do?

Quite a few on Bluesky (to where my accounts bridge), I don't know if some are xitter reposts. But Mastodon is far better for meaningful engagement. -

Surely everyone who is willing and has something to contribute should be able to participate? For democracy reasons but also overall effectiveness? I would have thought everyone’s skills and experiences are needed now more than ever

I suspect it's due to the organisational capacity being overstretched (rather than a paranoid interpretation) but it isn't encouraging. -

My local party collapsed a few years ago. Membership has shot up and a core group age looking at relaunching. If I could persuade them to have a presence here, that would be awesome. If I had the energy I'd set it up myself. -
