Not having a recommendation algorithm for people to game helps a lot

that's just it. here in the real fediverse you either intentionally have to follow an artificial account filled with slop or a human account who repeats slop.  such accounts would not last long in my timeline ...

Oh yeah it's definitely going to be useful in a few contexts. I'm just glad I eliminated some of the worst ones from my life.

I know they're not doing it intentionally, nor does the original poster really get anything from the boosts, except maybe a Number Go Up dopamine rush

If you follow someone who posts good things but is questionable in their judgement when boosting, there is a setting to show only their posts and not their boosts.

(Apologies if you already know about it, I find that it's hidden enough to be worth mentioning when relevant)

@renwillis but it is not clear if this means that you didn't read it because it was written by AI, or that you didn't read it because you just had AI summarize it.

@renwillis @gbargoud @PeachMcD The problem I run into most these days though is that I can't 100% tell if something is AI if it's not the basic Computer Graphic Average From 2015 style.
There was this old painting meme going around a few days ago I just couldn't get a proper read on. I couldn't find an original and the image had certifiably been online for only few weeks.

It's this one (I'm not up on my art history so I can't investigate based on that). I saved the image to try edge detect, but obviously if the quality is poor enough to start with, it's not going to be conclusive

That was a difficult one because the quality was too high to be AI art but the subject matter was truly ridiculous in the best ways

I see a "I louvre art memes" watermark on it which could be a good place to investigate.

I think it's probably legit, putting text on an existing painting is so much easier than getting an AI generation of a painting that looks good/consistent and I expect the person who made it took the lower effort route

@gbargoud Yeah I tried looking for that and only came up with a FB group that's either a closed or no longer exists. And I would totally agree that just taking an actual painting would be the easiest, but the fact that I couldn't find anything online (I wanted to credit the original painting) just got my AI-senses tingling

Tbf, as time goes on, the worse my ai-sense gets
