This also goes with AI, as we all have noticed. Even though the user hates it, the company can present it to their investors: "see we're going along with the future blabla"
In our case, based on donations, we chose to go the other way and only add what the people want since they are also the investors
So yeah, running on donations has down sides but also massive upsides!

Donations should also be optional, in a clear way that people should not expect any "direct benefits" over them other then helping pay for the services
I love to feature people on my profile as thank you for a donation but i will never promise any special treatment or features (AI for example)
Don't get bought like a handbag or stroopwafel
