I only flew once in my life to Dublin and back and that's all within Europe so minimal checks
If I where to travel to a country where they would take my phone and demand my password I think I'm refusing
"Give your password if you don't have anything to hide" is just plain bullshit
Everyone has stuff to hide, even if it's a password or private note
We should not accept this authoritarian bullshit

@stux@mstdn.social you could set your homescreen to a dick Pic, preferably a very gross one.
When they ask you to unlock your phone they will get flashbanged with it. -

My parents ALWAYS used this excuse: "The gov can look into everything I do, I got nothing to hide" they said over and over
And my reply was:
"So you're okay with an agent being at your side all day everyday watching your every move?"
Cause it's the same freaking thing

@stux dit las ik ooit eens:
"ik heb niets te verbergen, ik ben alleen bang voor de gevolgen van hoe anderen het interpreteren"

@knuppelbeer
Oh wauw
Ik vind het nog steeds een beetje bijzonder dat bij veel mensen het internet nog steeds "niet echt" is, terwijl de consequenties die ze ervaren super echt zijn

@stux you know it already but for everybody out there who says the same as stux parents; everybody has something to hide. You don't act the same around your friends, family or coworkers. Those are three different you's and most of the time you don't want them to mix. And even as simple with passwords and pin codes. You hide them.

@stux It's the invasion of privacy. Just because people have 'nothing to hide' it's none of anyone's business. And who knows what they're stealing/copying/downloading/uploading from/to the phone once it's out of your sight!?

@stux Simple response to this "I have nothing to hide" nonsense:
"Why do you have curtains in your windows?"

@stux everything is fine until it isn't so someone may be fine now saying they have nothing to hide but 6 months, weeks, hours later when an irrational administration decide they don't like something, that all changes & legacy activity will be used against people
At this point, the world needs to treat the US as a pariah & carry on without them as much as possible including heavy travel restrictions on the country
All empires fall, what makes america think that their empire won't also fall?

@stux God already does. Right? So why should they have a problem with that?

@stux It kinda doesn't matter if you have that bug in your head already. The feeling does not subside.

@stux These 'well you must have something to hide' people presumably don't close the cubicle door in toilets, or close their curtains, and have transparent walls on their houses, no doors or locks...

@stux
Tell those people to install publicly-accessible cameras in their bedrooms and bathrooms and see what they say.
