It is still pretty insane we need a giant mega corp like Epic Games to finally slash down Apple with their predatory percentages on each and every transaction

I understand it costs a lot of money to host all the apps and maintain the store but uh.. we developers already pay Apple 100 euro per years to have access to their #developers part alone
Epic isn't the best company but so far they did cut down Apple with restrictions and they do give out a "free" game engine (free earn to 1mil)

@stux Back in Twitter times, I knew a software developer who was so in love with Apple, he used to say that it's great that Apple charges developers for access because "it keeps the randos and layman out"

@stfn woh.. Some costs are okay because of hosting + moderation + not having the store full with crap
But apple abuses their power hardcore with this
Google only charges 15 euros (one-time) i believe
Also, the amount of rejects Apple does is bizzare..
You pay 99 euros, spend a lot of time creating a game or app, and Apple flat out just rejects it

@stux Yes, some entry threshold is good, but then again, as you say, Apple is simply abusing its power. This is what being a monopoly results in.

@stfn Yup.. and we need to wait for another monopoly to fight it
Hooray for government and restrictions

@stux Exactly, this is why we need so much entities such as the EU, to keep the corporations under an iron fist.

@stfn I agree! My gf and I are purposly staying within EU borders just because of these things
If we let corpo's run wild, we will end up with a Cyberpunk 2077 end story, plain and simple

@stux Apple give you Xcode for free. You don't have to pay the Developer Fee until you decide to distribute an app or game on the App Store.
I agree that some of the anti-steering policies are a bit overkill, but Epic might've got Apple to change if they'd got a bunch of developers together and pushed for changes, rather than the pissy way they went about it. That immediately created an adversarial atmosphere, ended up in court, and is taking forever.
No one comes out of it looking good.
