My biggest gripe with running an Nvidia GPU on Pop!_OS? Every driver update nukes my setup.
The moment I update, the GPU vanishes. I reboot, and Pop!_OS limps along on a 1024×768 fallback driver. Then I have to run:
sudo dpkg --configure -a
Only after that finishes do I reboot again—and finally, the driver works.
Two reboots. Every time.
If you don’t have the patience (or the stomach) for troubleshooting, stay far, far away from Nvidia on Linux.

@atomicpoet that's actually a part of why I'm worried of convrting my main rig to Linux yet. It still runs Win10, and only has an RTX2060S in it. I'd trade it out for something AMD but currently can't afford any GPUs. -

@atomicpoet for what it's worth I run Bazzite for my gaming rig and have not had any problems with Nvidia on a 3090 FE. So far everything has run perfectly. The one game I had a problem with was a weird controller issue on Binding of Isaac. I haven't thrown anton of AAA games at it but Elden Ring, Indiana Jones, Expedition 33, and a number of others have worked flawlessly. It's been at least a couple of years and it's honestly been a better experience for gaming than windows ever was. Take it with a grain of salt though. I've used Linux for 25 years so there's probably a lot of problems I didn't even notice or randomly fixed based on experience and didn't notice I fixed them.

Varyag Well, it works. It’s just a pain in the ass.
Right now, I’m dual booting Windows 10 and Pop!_OS. But I know full well that Win 10 support is going to end. So if I want active updates, it will have to be Linux because Windows 11 won’t install on my system.

Jake I should think about Bazzite as another option. Thing is, this PC isn’t just for gaming—I do work on here too. So we’ll see. This is just a test drive.

Oh, that sounds annoying!
I'm wondering what the problem could be, though. I've never encountered this issue with Ubuntu or Debian-based distributions and an Nvidia GPU.
Could it be a Pop!_OS problem? Or are you using the DKMS driver, which needs to be recompiled after a kernel update?
It has recently become very easy to install and use an Arch Linux-based system, e.g. with CachyOS or Omarchy. -
