So this is inspired by chuds getting their panties in a twist over a piece of art posted on D&D official twitter account for trans charity. As I sit deeply in World of Darkness currently, I thought how much more based V:tM fandom was even when they get mad - like that time one of V:tM books said very real genocide of gay people in Chechnya is a lie to cover Vampire operations, and V:tM fans got so mad at such blatant homophobia, the company publishing WoD, White Wolf, got dissolved and absorbed by its parent company, Paradox Interactive, only being restored this year with new people incharge. THAT’S how you do fan outrage.

I mean Hasbro sent the literal fucking Pinkertons after some guys because they accidently sent them new mtg cards early. The change to the OGL and subscription based 5e are just among a few reasons to get into other systems. However, I still tell people I play DnD and can clarify I mean Pathfinder 1e to other ttrpg players. The average non player doesn’t know about the rest of the ttrpg scene.

Yeah the OGL junk was enough to help me decide to never give them another dime. My friends know that I’m open to playing it but I won’t be running anymore games myself.

I used to do that, but these days I just say I play “tabletop games.” And then one of three things happens: “Huh? What do you mean?” In which case I can clarify a bit, and usually wrap up with “Games similar to D&D.” “Oh okay.” Obvious disinterest, no need to elaborate further. “What system do you play?” Ah, a fellow player identified!

I mean, yeah, that’s generally more the response, but I don’t mind explaining things a bit if they’re interested enough to inquire.

I just play 5e with homebrew. WotC doesn’t really get anything new from me these days, and the games are much more enjoyable.

I’m much more comfortable sending money to Kobold Press anyway

Fun fact: if you beat the snot out of a Pinkerton and I’m on the jury then no you didn’t.

If you told me you play “games similair to d&d” I’d assume you mean Pathfinder or OSR and that would make me likely disinterested, as I’m head deep in WoD and Warhammer Fantasy right now

                        Wow. Damn.
